Steve Larson
As a piano performance major at the University of Oregon, Steve Larson was busily learning to play the music of classical composers (especially his favorites - Bach and Chopin) in diligent study with master teacher Victor Steinhardt. But at the same time, he was also playing keyboards (and a host of other instruments, including flute, trumpet, and trombone) in a in a rock-and-roll band called SCANDAL. The group made several recordings (on vinyl!) and toured, first as a cover band, then in a series of concerts to promote their records. Eventually, the band became so successful that Steve dropped out of school to devote his full time to practicing, performing, and concertizing with SCANDAL.

Steve now holds an endowed chair at the University of Oregon as the Robert M. Trotter Professor of Music and performs with a variety of musicians, both locally and internationally. The navigation sidebar to the right will take you to see and hear about some of those musical collaborations.

Low Tide Drifters
The Low Tide Drifters are an Americana band from Eugene, Oregon with deep roots in the cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest. Influenced by artists such as Woody Guthrie, Utah Phillips, Guy Clark, John Prine, and Rosalie Sorrels, The Low Tide Drifters combine a love of folk, blues, and country music with original lyrics to produce their unique sound. Whether singing about Lake County loggers, a waitress trying to make it out of a stunted coastal economy, or fishing towns turned tourist traps, the Drifters are doing something few other bands are doing today-writing music that paints a picture of everyday working people.

Storytelling is their business, whether they're singing songs about Lake County loggers, Lincoln City Waitresses, or just trying to make it day to day in a dead-end job. Oregon Mozart Players
Oregon Mozart Players was founded in 1983 by a local group of professional musicians. The new ensemble had dual purposes: playing the large repertoire of music for chamber orchestra; sharing this music with the Eugene-Springfield community. As a result, the orchestra continues to present works written for small orchestras and intimate venues, allowing each instrument to be clearly heard.

The mission of the Oregon Mozart Players is to enrich the lives of audiences and players alike through the excellent performance and vigorous advocacy of chamber orchestra music.

The musicians play key roles in the orchestra's development, serving on its Board of Directors and nurturing an atmosphere that stimulates musical creativity.

The organization actively seeks the interest and support of the surrounding community.

Rock Scarlet
From different corners of the country, the members of Rock Scarlet have come together for the love of Rock! Each of these musicians has been in a ton of bands (it's an addiction). And if some of them look familiar, yes, you've probably seen them before - but together they're the incomparable Rock Scarlet.

Ranging from heavy power rock to multi-textured altered-state sound to acoustic-electric, Rock Scarlet performs the original rock compositions of songwriters Scarlet Jinn and Brian Lynn Elliott, plus a few classic remakes - done their own way! Scarlet's vocals are a unique blend of soft and sweet to balls-to-the-wall banshee, and Elliott's guitar work ranges from metal screaming to power dives to sweet and clean melodies. The rhythm section is alternatively tight and wild, with drummer Richie Erikson, and bassist Michael Nemeth driving the music with understated finesse.
