Nearby Nature is a non-profit education organization based in Eugene, Oregon. Our staff and volunteers lead nature walks, teach SUMMER DAYCAMPS, host school programs, sponsor special events, teach adult workshops, and work on environmental restoration projects, primarily in the Whilamut Natural Area of Alton Baker Park.
Nearby Nature also serves as the City of Eugene's official Park Host in Alton Baker Park, maintains an educational Learnscape on the grounds of the Alton Baker Park Host Residence, and is a partner in the Network Charter School.Nearby Nature was established in 1992 by a group of inspired local naturalists and educators. Why? Because these folks knew something important. People of all ages, from the tiniest tots to the wisest elders, thrive when they connect with nature nearby. Since 1992, Nearby Nature's staff and volunteers have served tens of thousands of local children, adults, families, and teachers. We have also worked with thousands of volunteers and numerous community organizations.
Nearby Nature serves thousands of community members every year. From the tiniest tot to the wisest elder, there's something for everyone!
Nearby Nature Camps = Adventure, Discovery, Art, and Science!
Nearby Nature daycamps are a medley of adventure, discovery, art, and science. We hike, bike, raft, and canoe. We play games, plant gardens, and do experiments. We tell stories, create art, act, sing, and write. We emphasize respect: of ourselves, each other, and the Earth. Many camps also include special guests or neat field trips! This summer, we'll take trips to the Science Factory Planetarium, Crux Rock Gym, the UO Bike Barn, the Cascades Raptor Center, and the Spencer Butte Challenge Course. We'll canoe in Alton Baker Park and raft the Willamette River! We'll also enjoy visits from WREN, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Kalapuya storyteller Esther Stutzman.
June 18 through August 24: 2012 Summer Daycamps!
