DIVA: Behind The Lens Spring Term

All films begin at 7:00 PM and are followed by a lecture, discussion and question and answer period. The duration of each session varies by the screening length of the film. Screenings take place at the UO Baker Center at 7:00 PM. The Center is located at 325 East 10th Street, Eugene.

SEMINAR PROGRAM. DIVA’s winter Behind the Lens Seminar continues its yearlong program in film history with the theme of "Oaters, Tuners, and Weepies." By focusing on westerns, musicals, and melodramas produced in the 1940s, the program will explore evolving patterns in motion picture entertainment.

The series continues on Tuesday nights at the UO Baker Center located at 325 E. 10th. Each film begins at 7:00 PM with host Tom Blank providing an introduction to the evening’s film and then leading an engaging discussion following the screening.

(1953) 112 min. Director, Vincente Minnelli. With Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse. A Broadway artiste turns a faded film star's comeback vehicle into an artsy flop.

May 7 - Broken Arrow
(1950) 93 min. Director, Delmar Daves. With James Stewart, Jeff Chandler, Debra Paget. Tom Jeffords tries to make peace between settlers and Apaches.

May 14 - Home From the Hill
(1959) 150 min. Director, Vincente Minnelli. With Robert Mitchum and Eleanor Parker. A southern landowner's family is torn apart by the revelation that he has an illegitimate son.

May 21 - The Naked Spur
(1953) 91 min. Director, Anthony Mann. With Jimmy Stewart and Janet Leigh. A captive outlaw uses psychological tactics to prey on a bounty hunter.

May 28 - Written on the Wind
(1956) 99 min. Director, Douglas Sirk. With Rock Hudson and Lauren Bacall. A young woman marries into a corrupt oil family then falls for her husband's best friend.

June 4 - Gigi
(1958) 116 min. Director, Vincente Minnelli. With Leslie Caron and Maurice Chevalier. A Parisian girl is raised to be a kept woman but dreams of love and marriage

June 11 - Rio Bravo
