The University Symphony will perform the West Coast premiere of Roberto Sierra's new work for brass and percussion titled "Mambo Metalico," as well as Dvorak's ever-popular "Cello Concerto in B minor, op. 104" which will feature UO Concerto Competition winner Kelly Quesada.

UO Opera Ensemble "Opera Out of Time"

The UO Opera Ensemble, fresh from placing second in the National Opera Association’s annual Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition, will present scenes from your favorite operas, with a modern twist! Was Carmen a member of the Mafia? Are Hansel and Gretel lost in a Detroit slum? Was Don Giovanni just a rich and successful politician making his moves on an assistant? The Opera Ensemble lets its collective imagination run wild with scenes from "L'Elixir d'amore," "Les Contes d'Hoffmann," "Faust," "Carmen," and other favorites.

All That Brass!"

Music of Alejandro Planchart

Renowned musicologist, conductor, and composer Alejandro Enrique Planchart returns to the University of Oregon this spring for a special concert celebrating his compositional oeuvre. Among the works on this concert will be two world premieres, Planchart’s Sonata for Flute and Piano (2003) and his Fantasia for Bassoon (2006), along with selections from his Sonata for Solo Violin (1985­–87). Performers include past and present University of Oregon graduate students in performance/musicology: Sarah Pyle, flute; Helena Kopchick Spencer, bassoon; and L. Holland Phillips, violin. Reception and spirited conversation with Professor Planchart to follow. A specialist on music of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance,

Planchart was trained at Yale and Harvard, and has enjoyed a storied career at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Planchart has authored numerous books on early music.

The University of Oregon’s Department of Dance presents Dance Quarterly, an informal performance of dance composition, improvisation and repertory class work. The event will showcase the processes of undergraduate and graduate student dancers in developing choreography reflective of their own voices and artistry.
