"Ambrosia, in Greek mythology, means 'food of the gods'," Armen Kevrekian says sitting in his sparse office in the basement of his restaurant. Music and kitchen noise filters down from upstairs. "In the south, they have the term 'ambrosia' in the sense of 'let's have a good time.' So, they'll say 'let's go have an Ambrosia.'"
Located at East Broadway and Pearl Street, Ambrosia Restaurant & Bar is home to the first wood-burning oven in Eugene. Originally Acuardi's Old Town Pizza, the redbrick building became Ambrosia in 1987. Kevrekian, the restaurant's proprietor, purchased the eclectic, multi-leveled space after eating his way around San Francisco and settling on the concept of a wood-burning oven.
